Acer will introduce new gaming laptops with 13th generation Intel processors and RTX 4000 graphics cards from Nvidia at CES. The largest model has a screen diagonal of 18″. The cheaper Nitro laptops also get an update.

Acer will introduce the Predator Helios 16 and the Helios 18 at CES. These are the most expensive two gaming laptops that the company releases, with 16″ and 18″ screens. The Helios 16 and 18 will be equipped with Intel thirteenth generation processors, also introduced today. These are Core i7 and Core i9 processors with the HX suffix, which have a TDP of 55W and a maximum power of 157W.

The laptops will also be equipped with the recently introduced RTX 4000 video cards from Nvidia. Exactly which configuration Acer will deliver in the Benelux is not yet clear, but it is clear that there will be a version with RTX 4080, which will be configured at 165 watts. There is also a maximum of 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage in raid 0.

Acer is not the only manufacturer to venture into the 18-inch screen format, competitor Dell is also doing the same with the Alienware M18. However, Acer distinguishes itself by supplying its Helios 18 with an optional screen with a thousand-zone mini-LED backlight and a refresh rate of 250Hz. It is not entirely clear what resolution the screen has, but it seems to be 2560 x 1600. Acer also supplies the Helios 18 with LCDs without mini LED backlight and a resolution of 2560×1600, with a refresh rate of 165 or 240Hz, or with a 1920×1200 screen.

The Helios 16 is in all cases equipped with a 16″ screen with 2560×1600 resolution. The refresh rate here is also 165 or 240Hz and here too there is the option for a mini LED backlight, with an unknown number of dimming zones. The peak brightness is 1000cd/m² and the refresh rate is 250Hz.

Both Helios models will be available in the Benelux in the second quarter of 2023. The cheapest Helios 16 will cost 2400 euros, while the Helios 18 will cost at least 2500 euros.

Acer Nitro 16 and 17

Acer also introduces two new laptops in the Nitro series, the Nitro 16 and Nitro 17. Here, too, the number represents the screen diagonal. The Nitro 16 and 17 are powered by a thirteenth generation Intel processor. With the Nitro 17, just like with the Helios models, this is an HX processor. Which Intel chip is in the Nitro 16 is not entirely clear.

The laptops are also equipped with an RTX 4000 video card, but here too it is unclear which model that is exactly. The previous generation was equipped with a maximum of an RTX 3070 Ti video card. There is also a maximum of 32GB DDR5-4800 and a maximum of 2TB storage.

The Nitro 16 has a screen with a 16:10 ratio, with a choice of a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels, or 2560×1600 pixels, in both cases at 165Hz. The Nitro 17 has a 16:9 panel, with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 or 165Hz, or a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, with 165Hz. The Nitros will be available in May. The 16″ model will then cost 1500 euros, while the 17″ model will be on the shelves for 1600.
