Sega’s strategy game A Total War Saga: Troy has been downloaded 7.5 million times from the Epic Games Store in the first 24 hours of its release. Players could get the game for free during that period. The game now costs 50 euros again.

In a press release, Sega mentions the number of 7.5 million downloads. According to the publisher, this was higher than expected. The game was released on the Epic Games Store on Thursday, August 13, and as announced in early June, the game was available for free download for the first 24 hours. This was possible thanks to a deal between Epic and Sega. Epic has probably paid a lot for this, but no details have been disclosed.

Sega hopes that the giveaway will bring more players into the Total War games. Due to the deal with Epic, Troy is also only for sale in the Epic Games Store for the first year. The game now costs 50 euros there. It is not known how many people bought the game. The game is also coming to Steam in a year.

Releasing Troy in the Epic Games Store is a one-off promotion, according to Sega. Other Total War games will not be exclusive to that download store, but will be available on multiple platforms. A Total War Saga: Troy was created by developer Creative Assembly. The strategy game is set around the war between the Greeks and the Trojans in the Bronze Age. Players take on roles of the Greek Achilles or Prince Hector of Troy.
