Nest users can now view the temperature in their home with the Pebble smartwatch. It is also possible to communicate with various home automation hardware. Nest further expanded its home automation applications by acquiring the company Revolv.

With the Pebble smartwatch it is possible, among other things, to view the current temperature in the house and adjust it if necessary. Nest announces this on its blog. In addition, a link has been made between the smart thermostat and various home automation applications, including Life360, an app with which the location of family members can be tracked. By linking with Nest, the temperature can be automatically lowered when the last person has left the house.

Nest can also communicate with Rachio, makers of a sprinkler system. Should the Nest Protect smoke alarm sound an alarm, the sprinklers can be turned on automatically. Finally, there is support for the voice-controlled home automation software Ivee and Wallyhome, a sensor that measures water leakage.

Nest has also acquired Revolv. Revolv makes home automation applications, which are now in the hands of the Google subsidiary. The main goal of the acquisition is likely to be to get Revolv’s software: the hardware sold by the company is no longer available, it announced on its website.

Given the expansion of home automation applications, Nest and parent company Google seem to want to achieve a greater presence in the living room. This became apparent when Google released the Developer Program, which developers can use to link home automation applications via the Nest system. The company behind the smart thermostat previously took over Dropcam, which makes security cameras.
