New Vodafone subscribers and extenders cannot activate SIM card update
New subscribers and customers who renew their subscription have been unable to activate their SIM card since Tuesday. As a result, they cannot call, text or use mobile internet with their new subscription. Vodafone is aware of the problem.
It is unknown where the malfunction is, but Vodafone say to work with man and power on a solution. That seems to be coming: one of the people who suffered from the activation failure can now use his SIM card, but others can’t yet.
The outage only affects new subscribers and people who have changed or extended their subscription since Wednesday. Subsequently, the SIM card does not want to activate itself when logging into the network, so that all services are inaccessible. It is unknown when the outage will be resolved for everyone.
Vodafone will switch to a new company-wide computer system this year, but it is unknown whether the outage has anything to do with that. The last major outage with computer systems started this summer, when customers in My Vodafone were shown an error in data usage and received late or no text messages warning about the approaching data limit.
Update, Thursday: The malfunction has been resolved, Vodafone says.
Update 2, Friday: There are still a few dozen people for whom the SIM card cannot be activated. According to the provider, they can report to customer service to have this done after all.
