Software Update: 7-Zip 9.12 Beta

Spread the love

The developers of 7-Zip released a new beta release of their eponymous archiving program on Monday. Despite the choice last year to use the year of release as the main song, this and the previous release seem to have deviated from this again. 7-Zip can handle a variety of compression formats, including zip, cab, rar, arj, lzh, chm, gzip, bzip2, z, tar, cpio, rpm, deb, and of course the proprietary 7z. Furthermore, the software is capable of opening iso files and Nsis installation packages. The program is available for Windows, in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and the Windows Mobile platform. The changelog for this release looks like this:

what’s new:

  • ZIP / PPMd compression ratio was improved in Maximum and Ultra modes.
  • The BUG in 7-Zip 9.* beta was fixed: LZMA2 codec didn’t work, if more than 10 threads were used (or more than 20 threads in some modes).
