Microsoft changes name and appearance Your Phone app for Windows 11
Microsoft is renaming its Your Phone app to Phone Link and Your Phone Companion to Link to Windows. At the same time, the company has changed the design of the app for Windows 11 and there are changes in the navigation.
Users will be able to install Phone Link in an upcoming update to Windows 11 by scanning a QR code. According to Microsoft, the name Phone Link should better reflect that the app serves as a bridge between the PC and the smartphone of the user. The name of the app for Android changes from Your Phone Companion to Link to Windows. Both apps now have the same icon.
The apps are intended to enable applications between Android smartphones and Windows PCs, such as making calls via the PC, receiving notifications via Windows from the phone, transferring files and viewing photos from the device on the PC. With the name change, Microsoft has also brought the appearance of the app in line with the design of Windows 11. For example, the app no longer has the sharp corners at windows and the colors and icons have been adjusted.
In addition, the navigation has been adjusted with tabs, the app shows notifications in the left side panel and the display of messages, photos, apps and conversations is divided over different tabs. In addition, Microsoft has enabled expanded functionality in conjunction with Honor smartphones in the Magic V, Magic 4 and Magic 3 series. An example is being able to continue working on the PC with an app that has been started on the smartphone. Previously, the extended functionality was only available in combination with the Surface Duo from Microsoft and Samsung smartphones.
