Google redirects to music providers in US search results
From Friday, Google will show a link to songs by musicians in American search results on Android devices. Anyone who searches for an artist in the United States with the search engine can immediately play a song via the link shown.
For example, someone who searches for Katy Perry with his smartphone will be presented with links to various apps in the search results with which songs by the American pop singer can be listened to. In this way, Google wants to make it easier to search and discover artists, the company writes in a blog post.
The feature currently only works in the United States and also only on Android devices. For music playback, the search giant collaborates with various music providers, such as Spotify, TuneIn and iHeart Radio. In addition, Google also shows links to its own services Google Play and YouTube.
Google says the functionality will be available in other countries at a later date, but it’s unknown when this will happen or which countries will follow first. To roll out the feature in other countries, the company is working with local services such as Deezer, according to Google.
