Microsoft would have had plans to introduce the Surface Mini tablet, but the introduction would have been canceled at the last minute. The CEO of Microsoft and the CEO of the hardware branch thought that the product was not distinctive enough.

The Surface Mini, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Vice President Stephen Elop, looked too much like competitor products and would probably not be a success. Bloomberg writes that on the basis of a source who is familiar with Microsoft’s introduction plans.

Microsoft would be working on a small tablet with Windows, something that Panos Panay, CEO of Microsoft’s Surface division also hinted. Initially there would have been plans to introduce the Mini on Tuesday, but this was canceled at the last minute and all references to the model would have been removed at the event.

However, the Surface Pro 3 was announced, with which Microsoft focuses more on the combination of tablet and laptop. The Surface Mini would be a tablet with a soc from Qualcomm, which runs the Windows RT 8.1 version for ARM chips. It is currently unclear whether a release can be expected at a later date.
