Drawing shows ‘iPhone 8’ with fingerprint scanner on the back
A drawing of the iPhone 8 shows the fingerprint scanner on the back. The drawing was published by the person who first revealed the design and specs of the iPhone 6 series several years ago.
The Australian Sonny Dickson published the drawing of the suspected iPhone with OLED screen on his Twitter account. Three years ago, Dickson published specs and images of the iPhone 6 series that turned out to be correct, and he did the same with the iPad Air. He notes that the opening for the volume buttons and the Mute switch on the left side seem to be missing. It is not clear whether it is a glitch or whether Apple is replacing those buttons with software versions.
If the drawing is correct, Apple will move the fingerprint scanner to the back, in a spot below the Apple logo. Earlier rumors also indicated that the American electronics maker wanted to place the scanner there. The drawing indicates that Apple takes into account that it will not be possible to make a version of Touch ID that can be placed under the screen. The iPhone with OLED screen would have such small bezels that the fingerprint scanner on the front no longer fits.
Rumors about the upcoming iPhones have been circulating for months. According to most of those rumors, there will be three models. Two of them would be successors to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus with 4.7″ and 5.5″ LCDs, while the third would have a 5.8″ OLED screen and also has a 3D camera on the front.
