Sony XZ2 Premium smartphone will cost 899 euros

Sony has announced during a presentation that the Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphone can now be pre-ordered for a price of 899 euros. The device should be in stores at the end of this month.

The Sony XZ2 Premium was already announced in April and is based on the existing Xperia XZ2, but the new Premium version has better specifications in terms of screen, camera and battery. For example, the new device has a 5.8 “screen with a 4k resolution and support for HDR. The design of the XZ2 Premium, given the convex back, corresponds to that of the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact.

The new device is equipped with a dual camera, where one is intended for black and white recordings and the other for color photos. The maximum ISO value for photos is 51,200, for video it is ISO 12,800. The smartphone can shoot 1080p video at 960fps for slow motion playback.

Furthermore, the XZ2 Premium, with 6GB, has more RAM than the normal XZ2 and a larger battery with a capacity of 3540mAh. The soc used is the same as that of the other XZ2 models: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.

The dual camera will receive a software update later this year in the third quarter that will add a portrait mode. This is called the ‘Bokeh mode’ by Sony; allows users to use only the black and white camera. The front camera of the XZ2 Premium is a thirteen-megapixel one and, according to the manufacturer, can still be used for selfies in low light, partly due to the 1/3.06 “sensor.

The XZ2 Premium can now be pre-ordered for 899 euros. Those who do so before August 6 will receive the Sony WH-1000XM2 headset for free. At the time of writing, these noise-canceling headphones are in the Pricewatch for 300 or 320 euros.
