Spotify converts Unlimited subscribers to free accounts after more than seven years

Spotify writes in an email to Unlimited subscribers that their subscription will be converted to a free account with advertising from the next invoice date. It has not been possible to take out a new Unlimited subscription since the end of 2013.

Several users indicate to have received the mail and a user also writes on Reddit about the mail from Spotify. Unlimited subscribers can see in the Spotify account overview when their account is being transferred to a free account. In the email, Spotify does not explain why it is now stopping the Unlimited subscription.

Spotify stopped offering the Unlimited subscription in December 2013, which cost five euros per month. Unlimited allowed users to listen to music unlimitedly and without ads, but only on PC. Mobile users could therefore not use this. The Premium subscription, which costs ten euros per month, also allows users to listen to music on smartphones and tablets, provides higher music quality and allows users to download playlists.
