Rainbow Six Extraction comes out September 16 and Siege gets crossplay

Ubisoft will release its upcoming Rainbow Six game on September 16, 2021. The developer will announce this during his E3 presentation. The co-op shooter focuses on PvE elements and is intended for one to three players. Rainbow Six Siege will also receive crossplay.

In Rainbow Six Extraction, players team up against an unknown parasite that is spreading around the world. Rainbow Six Extraction is played with the same operators from the tactical multiplayer shooter Rainbow Six Siege. The E3 trailer features operators like Ela, Lion, Hibana, and Nomad, among others. Players can equip their operators with various weapons and gadgets, just like in Siege. Ubisoft shows, among other things, the drone from Siege. In Extraction, however, gamers will gradually unlock new equipment and upgrades; in Siege this is not the case.

In the game, players can choose to enter a containment zone to fight the parasite. The game features different types of enemies called Archaen. The trailer shows, among other things, a spiker that fires projectiles and a tormentor that can change shape. According to the developer, the game has a great focus on ‘leaving no one behind’; if an operator is defeated during a mission, players will not be able to use it until the operator is freed through a rescue mission. “Every time players enter a containment zone, they risk losing all their progression and upgrades,” the developer said.

Ubisoft also showed the first gameplay footage during E3, which takes place in a kind of laboratory with operators Ela, Alibi and Sledge. The game seems to retain the calm, tactical playstyle of previous Rainbow Six games. Maps also consist of several sub-zones, which are separated by airlocks where players can recover and replenish their ammunition. The sub-zones gradually become more difficult, Ubisoft says.

Rainbow Six Extraction is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Stadia, and PC via Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store. The game supports crossplay, Ubisoft reports. The game was initially announced as Rainbow Six Quarantine, but was later renamed. The game is a spin-off of the Rainbow Six Siege event Outbreak.

Ubisoft is also announcing that multiplayer shooter Rainbow Six Siege is getting crossplay support. Crossplay will be activated June 30 for PC and streaming services Google Stadia and Amazon Luna. Crossplay support for Xbox and PlayStation consoles will follow in 2022. Crossplay works between all platforms.
