Samsung brings mobile browser to Windows PC

Samsung yesterday released a beta of a Windows PC version of its mobile browser, Samsung Internet, which is based on Chromium, the programming base of several browsers such as Google Chrome.

From smartphone to PC

Samsung Internet is the default browser on Samsung smartphones and tablets. The company’s smartphones also enjoy a significant market share in the Netherlands. However, the Samsung Internet browser was previously not available on Windows PCs.

The company now promises to deliver a smoother, more connected browsing experience with the Samsung Internet for Windows. Samsung Internet for PC should therefore bridge the gap between mobile and desktop. In addition, users of the mobile version can, of course, synchronize their browsing data, such as bookmarks and their browsing history, with the PC version.

This way, users can log into websites securely across devices. Passwords are stored and synchronized via Samsung Pass. When switching between mobile and PC, you will be asked whether you want to resume browsing. This way, you experience a seamless web experience.

Samsung

Only in beta

As mentioned, this is still a beta version of the PC browser. It is only available on Windows 11 and Windows 10 in the United States and Korea. Logically, there are plans to expand the availability of Samsung Internet on PC to other regions. Therefore, people living in the Netherlands will have to be patient for a while, but it is unknown how long this will take.

AI

The arrival of Samsung Internet on PC has a nice added benefit for Samsung, as they can push their version of Ambient AI via the browser. That should make browsing a more innovative and more efficient activity. Consider proactively anticipating user needs and providing personally tailored assistance, although Samsung does not yet offer concrete examples.

The processing of AI in a web browser is far from unique: Google, Microsoft and other companies are also implementing an AI agent in their browsers.

The future of browsing

“As we expand Samsung Internet to PC, we invite users to join us in shaping the future of browsing,” said Won-Joon Choi, chief operating officer of the Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung. “This beta program delivers a more connected experience across mobile and PC, while paving the way for more intelligent browsing experiences in the future.”

“In the future, Samsung Internet capabilities will shape how users interact with the Web, evolving from a PC browser that waits for input into an integrated AI platform that understands users and protects personal data at every level.”
