RPCS3, a PS3 emulator for Windows and Linux, has added support to render games in resolutions up to 10k. If games have the assets, then games in the emulator look much sharper than in the original versions for the PlayStation 3.

In order to render games at least at 4k, a GPU with support for Vulkan is needed, the developers say. Games run on the PlayStation 3 at 720p resolution. If games are graphically detailed enough, the emulator can now show those details. The maximum is 10k. “But we doubt that many people have the necessary setup to view images in 10k,” the developers said.

Besides support for higher resolutions, the emulator also has anisotropic filtering on board to make textures look better at those high resolutions. The developers show the difference from rendering in 720p with the games Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Demon’s Souls, Yakuza 4, Catherine and Tekken 6. The higher resolution rendering works on all games, except when Strict Rendering Mode is required . The developers are working on an update to make it available for those games as well.
