Sony’s PS5 controller DualSense Edge gets official Linux support
Sony has updated its hid playstation Linux driver to support the DualSense Edge controller. That controller will be released in January and will have additional buttons, although they do not yet work with the Linux driver.
The manufacturer published the driver update earlier in October, notes Phoronix. Sony says the update will include support for the DualSense Edge controller, but only like the original PlayStation 5 controller DualSense. The additional features offered by the Edge controller, such as the ability to customize buttons, will not work with the update yet.
Phonorix writes that the update could be officially released in December. It is not clear whether Sony also wants to enable additional Edge functions in the future. The hid playstation open source driver also includes support for the PlayStation 4 controller. Sony released an official Linux driver for the first DualSense controller at the end of 2020.
The DualSense Edge controller is a PlayStation 5 controller that has buttons on the back of the controller, replaceable sticks and can be adjusted by software. For example, on the PlayStation 5, users can adjust the dead zones of the joysticks, map buttons and adjust the travel distance of the triggers. The controller will be released on January 26 and costs 240 euros.
