Youtuber xLetalis says it has found the last undiscovered easteregg in The Witcher 3. The find has been confirmed by Witcher developer Phillip Weber. In the easteregg, Vivienne character dies if the player waits in-game for seven years and seeks her out.

The easteregg is all about Vivienne de Tabris, who is cursed in the game. When Geralt lifts her curse, he says she will probably only have seven years to live. Whoever visits her now, seven years after the release, in her room in Skellige will indeed find a deceased Vivienne, discovered xLetalis. It is, however, necessary that those seven years in the game pass, which means that the player has to wait more than 2500 in-game days.

The YouTuber has to admit that it all looks a bit buggy, because it is still possible to talk to Vivienne while she is dead on the floor, and because her dress is next to her. xLetalis has been looking for eastereggs in the game for years and is happy to have found the latter. He says he is a little disappointed, because no other characters react to Vivienne’s death or the fact that so much time has passed.

Developer Philip Weber, who is now lead quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077, hid the easteregg in the game years ago. In a tweet he says that it is “poetic” that his easteregg was discovered exactly seven years after the game’s release. He compliments xLetalis on the discovery and says in another tweet that it all looks a bit broken due to how the cloth physics in the game works. “Dead characters in the game are normally static models, but this secret was added to the game when we couldn’t add anything new,” he explains. He wants to fix the bug, if possible. CD Projekt Red’s quest director Paweł Sasko also compliments xLetalis. He says the developers already expected that xLetalis would discover the easteregg at some point.

console

xLetalis didn’t really wait seven years, or 2500 game days, in the game, by the way. He used console commands to speed up the time in the game thousands of times. He also discovered that if you wait about ten years in the game, the time will be negative and the whole world will break down, with NPCs disappearing, visual glitches and large orbs appearing. He suspects that this is due to a technical limitation of the game engine. According to Weber, it is not strictly necessary to use console commands. The easteregg can also be discovered with normal play under very rare circumstances.

Easteregg hunters have been looking for the ‘last easteregg’ in The Witcher 3 for weeks, after Weber went back several weeks hinted during a livestream to the existence of an undiscovered easteregg in Skellige. xLetalis is not quite the first to discover that the last easteregg revolves around Vivienne. The German game site GameStar already said in 2020 that if the player waited seven years, they would find a dead Vivienne in her room.
