YouTube is testing AI-generated summaries for videos
YouTube will experiment with AI-generated summaries for videos. This should allow users to find out what a video is about.
For the time being, the experiment only applies to a small number of English-language videos and the summaries are only visible to a limited number of users. writes YouTube. A spokesperson for the video platform says to Engadget that during the test period it concerns tutorial, shopping and vlog videos that are viewed on mobile devices. The video summaries must be available worldwide and not only for English users.
The AI-generated summaries should appear before users click on a video, so they should get a better idea of what a video is about than just looking at the title and thumbnail. These summaries should not replace the video descriptions written by the creators, YouTube emphasizes. It is not yet clear what exactly the function will look like. The platform also does not mention whether and when the function will become available to all users.
