The introductory video of a test version of pirate game Skull & Bones has appeared online, Ubisoft confirms. It is a video from a closed technical test, in which a lot of gameplay can be seen and the various possibilities of the game are explained.

According to the explainer video, Skull & Bones can be played solo, but the entire game can also be played multiplayer. The game revolves around naval battles with pirates in the Indian Ocean. Players can only fight with ships. It doesn’t seem to be possible to fight on land or as a person on the ship.

However, players can go ashore to visit outposts. Ships can be built and upgraded there. Players can also enter into contracts here to gain fame. This gives players access to better ships and weapons. The goal is to become the most notorious pirate.

The video was temporarily on Streamable, but has since been removed. The images are from a technical test. This means that it is not an early alpha version, but a version with which, for example, the server technology is tested.

Since the video surfaced, Ubisoft vs Kotaku acknowledged that it was indeed a technical test. The game’s developer also has a teaser video posted on Twitter which hints at more information about the pirate game.

Skull & Bones has been in development for years and Ubisoft has delayed the game several times. The game was first announced in 2017, then with a planned release in 2018. Ubisoft has not currently provided an exact date for the game’s release, but the game is expected to be released before April 2023. It has reportedly cost more than $120 million to develop.

Update, 9.37 pm: The Skull & Bones video has since been removed from Streamable again. However, Ubisoft has confirmed the authenticity of the images to Kotaku.
