Twitter will limit the number of DMs that unverified users can send

Twitter will ‘soon’ limit the number of DMs that unverified users can send per day. According to Twitter, this limit is necessary to reduce the increasing amount of spam from bots in private messages.

In the announcement tweet Twitter does not let us know how many DMs unverified users are allowed to send each day. It is also not stated when this measure will come into effect. To be verified on Twitter, it is no longer checked whether an account is authentic. However, some accounts still need to be updated other requirements to get a verification check, including paying for Twitter Blue.

A week earlier added Twitter already added an option that allows users to only receive DMs from verified accounts. If the user follows the verified account, the DM will appear in the primary inbox, otherwise the message will go to the message request inbox. This setting was automatically activated for all users who had the DMs open to everyone. If users want to allow unverified accounts to send private messages, they must manually reset the setting.

We’ll soon be implementing some changes in our effort to reduce spam in Direct Messages. Unverified accounts will have daily limits on the number of DMs they can send. Subscribe today to send more messages:
