Streaming site Twitch has announced it is acquiring multimedia and software company Curse. Twitch says it aims to connect gamers with the acquisition and facilitate information sharing in addition to interaction.

Curse is best known for its add-on which is also known as the Curse client. The organization also sponsored several esports teams and offers a VoIP service called Curse Voice. The company, founded in 2006, also owns several websites, which, together with the other services, attract approximately 30 million visitors per month. That writes Twitch in a press release. The two companies will not disclose further details in a joint blog post.

Twitch CEO Emmet Shear said of the acquisition: “We are longtime fans of Curse, which innovates the game world and has built a strong culture around its services, from the Curse client and Curse Voice to Gamepedia.” Techcrunch suspects that the acquisition may enable Twitch to develop its own streaming application based on the Curse products. At this point, Twitch only lists third-party tools to enable streaming. However, there is no further confirmation of this assumption.

Twitch was acquired by Amazon in 2014 for an amount of EUR 757 million.
