According to Reuters and Bloomberg, ByteDance is quitting its mainstream gaming division Nuverse. The company confirms that it is ‘restructuring’ the gaming branch. TikTok’s parent company started the division in 2019 and released Marvel Snap, among others.

Employees must stop developing new games by December, anonymous sources told Reuters. ByteDance is still investigating what it wants to do with already released games. They may be sold to other publishers. There are now hundreds of people working at Nuverse, which according to Bloomberg sources, will be largely laid off.

The gaming division released, among other things, Marvel Snap, a collectible card game developed by ex-Hearthstone makers. Nuverse also released a Warhammer game and the RPG smartphone game Crystal of Atlan. ByteDance is also reportedly looking to sell Moonton, a development studio that created the Mobile Legends smartphone games. ByteDance would like to make simpler games for TikTok, for example.
