Computer giant Microsoft has presented a robot that will delight receptionists. The robot does know what to do with cans, in particular. He can take them to the fridge and give it to someone. Still saves ten seconds!
Microsoft wants to demonstrate with this robot that he can take over many tasks from a receptionist without replacing them. The tasks of the robot consist mainly of collecting and bringing things.
The technique behind the robot is certainly complicated. The robot makes calculations in the cloud, through internet connection. He can run software to calculate the effects of different movements. The software sends the expected correct movements back to the robot.
What else can the robot do? He can talk to customers and answer questions, but also know when a receptionist needs help. The robot will be further developed. It is not yet clear when Microsoft releases the robots.
