It is not yet known when System Shock 3 will be released. The development of the third installment in the series was announced at the end of 2015. A few months later, it was announced that Warren Spector, the chief executive behind the first Deus Ex game and System Shock, had been hired to lead the team working on the new game.

The first installment in the System Shock series appeared in 1994 and System Shock 2 came out in 1999. The cyberpunk themed action RGPs were well received at the time and are considered classics within the genre.

In addition to a new System Shock game, a remake of the original is also being worked on. This is done by a Nightdive Studios, after a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The remake should be released in the second quarter of 2018.
