Square Enix secures brand name Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Square Enix has registered the trademark ‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’ in Europe. This is probably the first title from the overarching Deus Ex: Universe, which was announced in October of 2013. It is still unclear what kind of product this is.
In the announcement last October, David Anfossi, head of Square Enix Montréal, spoke of “trans-human segregation”: which is related to the trademark name, Mankind Divided. The trademark includes computer games, mobile games, printed matter and feature films. It is not yet clear what exactly Mankind Divided will be for a product. However, Anfossi stated in October that a Deus Ex title for PC and next-generation consoles was already in production, so there is a possibility that this title will be called Mankind Divided.
Deus Ex: Universe is to be a “continuous, expanding and connected game world” spanning “a generation of games”. In addition to games for PCs and consoles, Anfossi spoke about mobile games, books, comic books, ‘et cetera’. He didn’t reveal more about the future of the franchise, other than that segregation between ordinary people and those with augmentations will be central.
