Sony blocks stacking of PlayStation subscriptions until June

It is no longer possible to renew current PlayStation Plus or PlayStation Now subscriptions. That is only possible after June 22, when Sony has introduced its new subscriptions. As a result, it is not possible to take out a new subscription at old rates.

Sony writes in a faq that it has disabled the ability to stack subscriptions as part of “behind the scenes work to make the transition to the new subscriptions as smooth as possible.” Vouchers for PlayStation subscriptions will remain valid, but can only be redeemed after the introduction of the new subscriptions if customers already have an ongoing subscription.

On June 22, Sony will introduce new PlayStation Plus subscriptions. PlayStation Now will then disappear and be merged into the Plus Premium formula. Current Now subscriptions will be converted to Plus Premium. That subscription costs 17 euros per month or 120 euros per year. PlayStation Now was a lot cheaper at 60 euros per year.

Until recently, users could renew and stack their Now subscription for several years, then be switched to the most expensive Plus Premium subscription starting June 22. While Sony doesn’t list this as a reason, that possibility is now gone.

After June 22, PlayStation Now vouchers can still be used, but the credit will then be converted to the current subscription prices. The vouchers then no longer offer any advantage compared to the purchase or renewal of Plus Premium.
