Sonos closes half of offices worldwide and lays off some staff

Audio manufacturer Sonos has announced it will close six of its 12 offices worldwide and lay off 12 percent of its staff. The manufacturer is experiencing financial difficulties as a result of the economic downturn.

It is not yet known which offices will close. Sonos will announce more details at its next quarterly results presentation, a document about the layoffs says. According to the site, Sonos has twelve offices around the world, including one in Hilversum.

In addition, the company will lay off 12 percent of its workforce, which includes a total of 1,450 people, and the director will receive a 20 percent less salary this year, the document says. It is still unknown in which divisions the layoffs will fall exactly.

Sonos is suffering from the economic downturn as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the company said. It started looking for ways to cut costs in March. Sonos makes audio hardware and software.
