Zone Labs has beta version 4.0.196 of ZoneAlarm released† The firewall blocks unwanted connections to the computer or local network. In addition, it can be set separately for each program whether it may have a connection to the internet or the system. The release notes for this beta are as follows:

Known Issues:

• The Beta build is not identifying itself as a “Beta build”. If you have a valid subscription on your system, it will appear like a normal build but hard expire after 58 days.
• On Windows 9x machines there may be duplicate Program entries in the Program List (Program Control > Programs)
• “Lock Host file” (under Firewall > Main > Advanced > General Settings) is not working on 9x machines
• Opening files locally may trigger a Program Alert
• Pre-configured Program permissions are not fully working yet
• The number of programs displayed under “outbound protection” (Overview > Status) may be higher than the number of Programs users actually have in their Programs list.
• When converting ZA to ZAP, some settings may not be retained and some default values ​​(especially Privacy) may be wrong.
• Backup and Restore for new features has not been completely implemented and , in some cases, may not work.
• ID Lock Alerts may not display the right site at all times.
• Site Verification may be shown for email.
• IMsecure/IMsecure Pro not compatible with ZoneAlarm(Pro) Beta on Windows 2000
• TRUSTe member list (within the UI) is not the finalized version
