Software Update: WinZip 14.0

Corel has released version 14 of its archiving program WinZip and seems to be leaving version 13 for what it is. WinZip used to be a popular program on the PC, but with zip support baked into newer versions of Windows and competition from programs like WinRAR and 7-Zip, its popularity has been on the wane for a while. Since version 14, three different versions are available, namely Standard, Backup and Pro. The mutual differences are shown on this page made clear. New in WinZip 14:

• Windows 7 support: Supports Libraries, Jump Lists, Explorer Preview, Touch Screen Gestures, and more
• Enhanced security: Wipes (shreds) temporary copies of AES encrypted files
• Simplified Zipping: New dialogs make it easier to find files, folders, and libraries
