Software Update: WinHex 12.5 SR-1

WinHex is a universal hex editor that allows you to apply low-level data processing through an easy interface. The program includes a RAM editor, a Data Interpreter and a Disk editor. The developers of X-Ways Software Technology have just released the first Service Release of version 12.5 and since version 12.5 is not covered in the junk tracker here is the changelog for both releases:

Changes in 12.5 SR-1:

  • Ability to find deleted or otherwise files on Reiser4 volumes when creating a drive contents table
  • Ability to see search results while searching physically and logically
  • Ability to open, preview, and export files with search hits while searching

Changes in 12.5:

  • File systems HFS+ and Reiser4 now natively supported (forensic licenses only)
  • Exploring large directories regularly or recursively now much faster
  • Improvements related to “Deleted Objects” directory
  • Cluster allocation display improved for FAT
  • Listing of NTFS ADS, INDX, and EFS streams improved
  • New directory browser columns: 1st cluster and file ID
  • Gallery view decoupled from directory browser
  • Various other improvements to directory browser
  • Better support for non-Western-European characters in filenames (since v12.35)
