Software Update: Wine 7.0

After six release candidates, the stable version of Wine 7.0 has now been released. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API and allows you to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, and macOS. A large group of developers contribute to Wine and it has been decided to release a new so-called development version every two weeks instead of waiting for a number of new functions to be ready. A stable edition is published a few times a year. The database with applications that work under Wine, with or without the help of minor adjustments, contains 28,299 titles at the time of writing. The following changes and improvements have been made in this release:

Wine Announcement

The Wine team is proud to announce that the stable release Wine 7.0 is now available. This release represents a year of development effort and over 9,100 individual changes. It contains a large number of improvements that are listed in the release notes below. The areas of major changes are:

  • Most modules converted to PE format.
  • Better theming support, with a bundled theme for a more modern look.
  • Vastly improved HID stack and joystick support.
  • New WoW64 architecture.
