Software Update: Wine 3.0-rc6

Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API and allows you to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris. A large group of developers contribute to Wine and it has been decided to release a new so-called development version every two weeks instead of waiting for a number of new functions to be ready. A stable edition is published a few times a year. The database with applications that work under Wine, with or without the help of minor adjustments, contains 25,093 titles at the time of writing. The sixth release candidate of version 3.0 has been put online and mainly contains bug fixes that look like this:

Bugs fixed in 3.0-rc6 (total 14):

• RedMon v1.7/1.9 (Redirection Port Monitor) fails to install/run
• joy.cpl crashes when PS4 Gamepad connected via Bluetooth
• valgrind shows an uninitialized write in dlls/advapi32/tests/security.c (test_CreateDirectoryA)
• RaidCall 7.x crashes when joining a group/trying to test sound
• mshtml:script test regression(timeout)
• Castle of Illusion starts on black screen and crash
• Vietcong – graphics glitches since Wine 2.1
• valgrind shows an uninitialized write in dlls/advapi32/tests/security.c (test_AddMandatoryAce)
• valgrind shows an uninitialized write in dlls/advapi32/tests/security.c (test_token_security_descriptor)
• valgrind shows several definite leaks in dlls/advapi32/tests/security.c
• Arx Fatalis: Candlelight / Porch light leaks through the walls
• stack corruption and crash with OpenSSH port
• Regression: Default value in dropdown list is no longer select
• Powerpoint 2007/2010 slideshow encounters an “unexpected error” trying to move past first slide

Bugs fixed in 3.0-rc5 (total 9):

• Slingplayer 2.0 Setup Assistant fails and hangs app
• regedit does not give gui feedback on import of keys
• Armed and Dangerous: severe performance degradation
• CHM viewer navigation items are no longer shown
• Multiple installers fail (affects MS Office 2010/2013, Notation Composer 3)
• regedit/tests fail when run with limited user account
• Eclipse (Europe) crashes on start
• Alice: Madness Returns crashes upon launch
• Memory optimizer tool in ProtectionID crashes wineserver
