Software Update: Skype for Windows 5.10 build 116 / Mac OS X 5.8 build 1207 / Linux 4.0.0.8

Skype has released new versions of its VoIP clients for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. With Skype it is possible to communicate with other Skype users by means of text, speech or image, or a combination thereof, via an internet connection. It is also possible to set up a video conference call with a maximum of ten people, but there is a Premium Subscription required. Furthermore, the Facebook News Feed is integrated into the program and there is Skype Home, a place where you can indicate your mood, change your profile and find new contacts. For an additional fee, calls can also be made to landlines and mobile telephones. Among other things, the hotfix should fix an issue that an instant message does not reach the intended person.

Hotfix for multiple Skype clients

We are rolling out a hotfix over the next few days for multiple Skype clients to address a couple of known issues.

We recommend downloading the updated versions of Skype once they are available.

The hotfix addresses an issue that occurs only when a user’s Skype client crashes during a Skype IM session, which may in some cases result in the last IM entered or sent prior to the crash being delivered to a different IM contact after the Skype client is rebooted or logged in as a new user. Although we cannot determine precisely how many users may have been affected by this error, we believe the number is small given the very specific circumstances under which the error occurs.

During further investigation, we confirmed that not all Skype products were affected by this error as originally reported. We can assure that users of Skype 5.9 for Windows, Skype 2.8 for Android and Skype 4.0 for IOS have not been affected.

In addition, we have fixed File Sending on the desktop versions of Skype where it was not possible to save files for users who have a hard disk drive in FAT32 format.
