Pi Segment is a new distributed computing project that tries to calculate the Pi number as far as possible. The developers set the goal of breaking the current world record of PiHex from September 2000. The number Pi was there calculated to the quadrillionth bit as in this announcement can be read. Pi Segment currently has a number of versions behind it and they have already checked the world record of PiHex. With the version just released, with 1.0.7.3 as the version number, the last checks are being carried out to actually break the world record soon.
