FreeNAS is a complete software solution to set up a machine as a NAS. The whole is based on a stripped-down FreeBSD installation and provided with a clear web interface. It has onboard support for CIFS, FTP, NFS and Software RAID. In addition, it can be installed on a Compact Flash, hard disk or a USB stick without any problems. The developers have released version 0.6 with the following changes:
Major changes:
- Adding local user/group authentication
- Add Rsync daemon
- Support hard drive biggest than 2TB (using GPT/EFI instead of the MBR)
Minor changes/Bugs fixed:
- Add time/date display on the system page
- Add comment for shares
- Add option in the mount point list for re-try to mount a share
- Add option in the NFS configuration page for using the good UID/GUID
- Install script check if the destination drive is used
- More options on the Software RAID tools (saveconfig, Force state to UP)
- FTP timeout display in minutes bug fixed
- Removing RAID volume is more clean (remove the RAID disks too)
- Can boot if there is no serial port
- “clean log” button works
