Spread the love

A new version of CrossLoop was released last Friday. With this program a connection can be made with another computer, for example to provide assistance there. The program is based on Tightvnc with its own user interface, with an emphasis on simplicity in use. That way, a layman on the other end can easily be instructed to install the program and set up a connection. Each time the program is started, it generates a unique 12-digit code that must be passed on to the person who wants to take over the PC. In addition, the receiving side must also confirm once again that the PC may be taken over. New in this release is that the CrossLoop website shows which help providers are online and it should be possible to update the program in the future without having to install a whole new version. The full changelog for this release is as follows:

Changes in CrossLoop version 2.20:

  • The application can track your availability and echo that information in the CrossLoop Help Marketplace
  • Tracking will only be enabled if you (a) are logged in to the application, (b) have a Helper profile, and (c) have opted into the Marketplace
  • Any keyboard or mouse activity will indicate you are available, reflected in the green beacon
  • After 5 minutes of inactivity, the beacon will turn yellow
  • Five minutes after that, the beacon turns gray indicating that you no longer appear as “Available” on the Marketplace
  • Keyboard or mouse activity at any time will restore your availability status
  • If you are contacted by a customer and are logged in, you will see the notification appear in the application. Email with the contact information will also be sent to you
  • From the menu, you access all your settings, including turning off tracking entirely or setting yourself temporarily as “Not available.”
  • There is a time lag of a couple of minutes between the change of status on the application and the website
  • As a security measure, you can no longer edit the access code
  • If you want a new access code, you can generate a new one by accessing the application menu
  • With this version of the client, future software upgrades will be handled seamlessly so you don’t have to download the latest version by visiting the CrossLoop website (unless you are running Vista with UAC enabled)
