Software update: Caliber 3.42

A new version of Caliber has been released. Caliber is an open source e-book management program and is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Among other things, it can look up all relevant information and cover images, and convert e-books to make them suitable for the various types of e-readers. Furthermore, the program can convert newspapers, magazines and news articles based on RSS feeds into e-book format. Books can also be purchased with Caliber at the well-known web stores. This version only contains bug fixes and minor improvements. This is because Kovid Goyal is currently spending a lot of time on the migration to Python 3. In version 3.42 the following improvements have been made:

• Conversion: Transform styles: When using regular expressions fix substitution groups not working. Close tickets: 1825764
• Fix a regression in the previous release that caused the conversion of HTML to text in comments when output to catalogs or converting downloaded metadata to behave slightly differently. Close tickets: 1826654
• Edit book: Fix beautify not handling

• DOCX Input: Fix cross-references using the ‘fldSimple’ markup not being recognized by caliber.
• EPUB/MOBI Catalogs: Fix a regression in the previous release that caused ampersands and middle-dots to appear as HTML entities in the output. Close tickets: 1826127
• Prevent a malformed tweaks.json file from stopping caliber startup
• Fix a regression that broke completion for ebook-convert
• News fetching: Fix a regression that broke removal of attributes/javascript/srcset because of bugs in the new BeautifulSoup
• TXT Output: Fix Vietnamese  character being stripped from output. Close tickets: 1825770
• E-book viewer: Fix specifying a non-existen location via –open-at causing viewer to hang
