The loved ones of the missing security expert Arjen Kamphuis take into account that he is still alive and chose to disappear himself. He has previously withdrawn in a similar way and there are indications that this may now also be the case.

Kirk Wiebe, colleague of the Kamphuis who disappeared in Norway, reports in an article in the AD that the traces that lead to Germany may indicate a voluntary disappearance. The 47-year-old Kamphuis has lived there for years. Shortly after his disappearance, a German SIM card was inserted into his phone and he has reportedly been spotted in Denmark, which lies between Norway and Germany. His friends also investigate a payment to Deutsche Bahn shortly before his trip.

His earlier voluntary disappearance may give hope, but when he disappeared from the radar that time after a stressful period, he did keep friends informed. The Norwegian police are still keeping the possibilities of an accident or a crime open. The research has almost come to a standstill, probably due to a lack of new developments.

Friends and colleagues will hand out 60,000 ‘find Arjen’ stickers at the 35th edition of Chaos Communication Congress in Leipzig next week, in the hope that awareness among some 17,000 like-minded people will lead to his find. Kamphuis has been missing since 20 August.
