AC3Filter is a DirectShow filter for decoding AC3 audio in avi and MPEG2 files. It is an open source project and can be used for free. A serious bug was found in the recently released first release candidate and it has been addressed in 1.01a RC2:

Changes from AC3 Filter 1.01a RC1 to 1.01a RC2:

• Serious bug in decoder fixed. Sound is _much_ better now especially on low bitrates.
• Some optimizations.
• Updated DPLII downmix matrix according to this discussion (thanks to bleo!)
