Snapchat’s design tweak promised in November is now available to try for any Android user with root access. The new design allows for noticeably better performance, something many users have complained about in the past.

The new Snapchat design was discussed during a quarterly earnings review in November. Above all, it should become more efficient, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel promised to shareholders. In addition, it should become more intuitive to use.

To try the redesign, according to a guide from XDA-Developers, users must have version 10.39 or 10.39.1. Then they have to find and adjust an XML file with the app’s settings, after which they have to enter some commands in a terminal while the phone is connected to the PC via USB.

The change was first discovered by Jane Manchun Wong, a developer from Boston. When she came out with the discovery, she immediately took some screenshots to give Android users an idea of what to expect.
