‘Samsung halves nand memory production to stabilize prices’

Samsung is reportedly halving its production of NAND memory to compensate for low flash memory prices. The reduced supply should result in higher or at least stabilized flash prices from the fourth quarter of this year.

In September, Samsung reportedly started producing fifty percent less NAND memory, according to a market analysis agency TrendForce. This would mainly concern nand chips with 128 layers or less. Samsung’s strategy, by far the largest in this market segment, is expected to result in a price increase of between zero and five percent in the last quarter of this year. By comparison, the price of nand memory has consistently fallen by ten to fifteen percent in recent quarters. The agency reasons that other manufacturers will also produce even fewer nand chips. Moreover, nand manufacturers have been making adjustments for some time now by reducing production.
