Rumor: Nvidia to drop GeForce RTX 3080 20GB and RTX 3070 16GB

Nvidia is rumored to have dropped its RTX 3080 20GB and RTX 3070 16GB. The tickets have never been officially announced, but previous rumors had it coming in December. Nvidia reportedly wanted to answer AMD’s RX 6000 GPUs with the cards.

According to VideoCardz, multiple anonymous sources confirm that the GeForce RTX 3080 20GB and the 16GB version of the RTX 3070 will not be released. It could be that Nvidia will release the video cards at a later date, but the rumor site says it has received clear information that the release has been canceled and has not been postponed.

Nvidia reportedly wanted to answer the upcoming Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards with the RTX 3080 20GB and RTX 3070 16GB. According to rumors, three models are equipped with 16GB vram. AMD will announce those cards on Oct. 28.

The reason for the deletion of the RTX variants with more memory is not known. It is suggested that it could be related to low yields of the Gddr6x memory that Nvidia uses with the RTX 3080 and 3090. However, the RTX 3070 uses GDDR6, which is widely available.

The existence of the GeForce RTX 3080 20GB and RTX 3070 16GB has never been confirmed by Nvidia, but it has been rumored for a long time and several references have been found. For example, the Gigabyte website showed listings to the RTX cards with more vram.

Previously, Nvidia would have already scrapped plans for an RTX 3070 Ti. According to VideoCardz, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is still expected. That card would come out in mid-November and, like the RTX 3070, be equipped with 8GB vram. That the RTX 3060 Ti consists of registrations from Gigabyte.
