Clues in the code of Google’s search app indicate that the following Pixel phones will have a different lineup than expected. Instead of a Pixel 5 and a Pixel 5 XL, only the former seems to be coming out, along with the Pixel 4a and something called the ‘Pixel 4a (5G)’.

The code was found by 9to5Google, which looked at the code from a beta version of the Google Search app. The site looked specifically for references to ‘redfin’ and ‘bramble’, the codenames for two upcoming Google phones that would both have a Snapdragon 765G processor.

From the code, 9to5Google deduces that redfin and bramble are not the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5 XL, as previously assumed. Bramble would also not be the Pixel 4a about which a lot of information has already been leaked, but another device, the ‘Pixel 4a (5G)’. The name and the Snapdragon 765G-soc shows that the device will receive 5G support. The phone codenamed redfin is said to be a Pixel 5, which has the same 5g processor. The Pixel 4a itself would have been codenamed sunfish, and that phone would have a Snapdragon 730 soc.

That means that a Pixel 5 XL might not be released. Google always released a standard version of the Pixel along with a larger XL version, but it may be getting rid of that. In addition, there would be no reference to the Pixel 5 XL at all in the code.
