Rockstar has announced a visually enhanced version of GTA: San Andreas for Xbox 360. The HD version of the game will then be released ten years after the game’s debut as a Games on Demand title.

The new version of GTA: San Andreas will be available on the Xbox Marketplace on October 26 for $14.99. The resolution has been increased to 720p and Rockstar reports improved draw distance. In addition, there is support for achievements. The new Games on Demand version of the game isn’t compatible with the Xbox Originals version that was previously on sale, the developer points out, so existing save files won’t work with the updated version.

The arrival of the polished GTA title was already expected when the Xbox Originals version of GTA: San Andreas disappeared from Xbox Live and a list of achievements appeared. It is unclear whether there will also be a 720p port to the PS3. San Andreas is still available in its original form for the PS3 as a Playstation Classic title. The game is also available for Windows, OS X, iOS, Android and Windows Phone. For the mobile platforms, Rockstar had already made some graphical improvements.
