RED is working on a holographic video chat function for Hydrogen One smartphone

Camera manufacturer RED is working on a holographic chat facility for its Hydrogen One smartphone. The device uses the two front cameras to record the face of users in 3D, while the 3d screen can show the footage.

RED uses an algorithm to mix the image from multiple angles to get a holographic effect, reports The Verge on the basis of a hands-on with the telephone. The site was able to try out the function, but it was forbidden to take pictures of the screen of the device during the demonstration.
Presumably, only users who both have a Hydrogen One can holographically chat with each other, because RED has its own 4V format. has developed to record and play images for the screen.
The Hydrogen One uses a regular LCD with behind it a layer that can spread light in multiple directions to achieve the 3d effect. According to The Verge this works better than with previous 3d screens on smartphones, although that does not say much.
RED announced his smartphone in July last year. RED showed the Hydrogen One Saturday on a day at RED Studios in Hollywood. The phone gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-soc, 5.7 “screen that has a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and a 4500mAh battery in regular mode. There is a version of aluminum that costs 1195 dollars and a variant of titanium that costs $ 1595 It is the first smartphone of the American company, specializing in professional cinema cameras, which will be released this summer.
