Porsche to develop autonomous air taxis

Porsche is thinking about developing drones that can transport passengers. According to sources, the car manufacturer is already close to a first design, but it is still unclear what that looks like.

That reports the German Automobilwoche based on sources. This so-called air taxi should be able to transport passengers semi-autonomously, so it is probably a kind of drone that can also transport people. The mode of transport would still give passengers some control over the controls, but a pilot’s license would not be necessary as most functions are automated.

A first design should soon be presented by Porsche, but the company itself has not released anything about it yet. However, Porsche CEO Detlev von Platen confirms to Automobilwoche that his company is thinking about such means of transport. According to von Platen, a solution would be to get from one place to another faster.

Several companies are working on passenger drones, but so far few working concepts have been shown. An example is Daimler’s Volocopter, a kind of autonomous mini helicopter that will eventually be used as an air taxi.
