PNY introduces PCIe 5.0 SSD with two fans and read speeds of up to 12GB/s

PNY has unveiled its PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD CS3150. This model includes a heatsink with two integrated fans and the 2TB version has sequential read and write speeds of up to 12GB/s and 11GB/s respectively. The M.2 SSD will be released in December.

PNY claims that the two fans are necessary to maximize heat dissipation and prevent throttling so that performance remains consistent. The manufacturer promises that ‘ultra-quiet’ fans have been used. In addition to a 2TB model, a 1TB version of the Gen5 x4 SSD will also be available. This includes sequential read/write speeds of 11.5GB/s and 8.5GB/s respectively. The company isn’t sharing random read and write speeds yet.

The manufacturer writes that the SSD also ‘takes full advantage’ of Microsoft’s DirectStorage API, a technology that can shorten loading times in games. This SDK has not yet been widely used. Forspoken and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, among others, already use this technique.

The SSD will be available in three different variants: with a black heatsink, with a white one and with a black one with RGB lighting. The latter requires a nine-pin connector to power the fans and control the LEDs; the other two require only a four-pin plug. The RGB version of the 1TB variant has a price of $ 190. That is $10 more expensive than the regular versions, which cost $180. The prices of the 2TB versions are not mentioned. PNY states that the internal SSDs should become available sometime in December.
