PlayStation Store is getting accessibility tags for PS4 and PS5 games
Sony will soon add accessibility tags to the PlayStation Store. This will optionally show users which features PS4 and PS5 games have to support people with disabilities.
The accessibility tags will be added to the first PS4 and PS5 games this week, Sony reports in a blog post. The tags will initially be available for a number of different games, including Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarök, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Sony says it is working with “a host of developers” to add these tags to more games “in the coming weeks and months.”
Pressing the triangle on the controller will show users in the PlayStation Store which accessibility features the game in question has for people with visual, hearing, motor or mental disabilities. This includes options such as alternative colors for people who are color blind, in addition to options for larger text, mono audio, subtitle size, button remapping, the option to skip puzzles and transcription for voice chat in the case of online games.
Microsoft already added in 2021 similar tags of Xbox games in the Microsoft Store. Sony is also currently working on a more accessible PlayStation 5 controller, dubbed Project Leonardus, after Microsoft did the same with its Xbox Adaptive Controllers. Those controllers should help people with physical disabilities control games.
