Asus gives some of its upcoming Z390 motherboards support for so-called double capacity dimms. These are memory strips that are twice as high, so that they can accommodate two rows of memory chips. The dimms are intended for small motherboards.

Pictures of Asus’ upcoming Z390 motherboards and double capacity dimms are on VideoCardz. It concerns a strip from Zadak and a Trident Z RGB DC module from G.Skill. The capacity of the high memory modules is unknown, but Asus probably wants to use the different dimms to provide small motherboards that only have two memory slots with extra RAM.

There are already regular ddr4 memory strips of 128GB each, but they are very expensive. 16GB strips are common for consumers. For example, the high dimms could offer a capacity of 32GB each, so that a system with a small motherboard can be equipped with 64GB of ram.

According to VideoCardz, the modules are suitable for the Asus Maximus XI motherboards. The Gene variant of that is a micro-atx motherboard. The rumor website has also published photos of numerous other Z390 motherboards from Asus. The official announcement will be made in October.
