Phone accessory maker Incipio acquires headphone maker Skullcandy
Skullcandy, the maker of several stylized headphones, is likely to be acquired by Incipio, known for its cases for iPhones and iPads. The two parties have reached an agreement, but Skullcandy will have another 30 days to search for a better offer.
Incipio is acquiring all shares of Skullcandy for $5.75 each. That comes out to a total of $177 million. The company pays an extra 23 percent compared to the current value of the shares. Skullcandy has until July 23 to look for a better offer from other parties. After that, the agreement continues. The companies expect to close the deal in the third quarter of this year.
A Skullcandy representative reports that the company will still maintain its own identity and product line after the acquisition. Skullcandy also produces gaming headsets and earplugs for sports. Finally, the company has also designed laptop speakers for Dell and Toshiba notebooks. It is not the first acquisition by the growing Californian Incipio. In 2015, it acquired both Incase and Clamcase.
