Oppo’s next high-end phone might get a 90Hz display. Brian Shen, vice president of Oppo, hints at this via the Chinese social network Weibo. This may be a successor to the Reno 10x Zoom.

Shen reports in a post on Weibo that an as-yet-unknown Reno model will include a “__Hz” display. To a post from a Weibo user that only seems to use OnePlus 90Hz displays, he responds: “That doesn’t match what I know.” With this he seems to indicate indirectly that Oppo’s upcoming phone will have a 90Hz screen.

Furthermore, Shen reports that the as-yet unnamed phone will not be released in September. In addition, he seems to hint at support for a fast charging technique. Other details are still unknown.

Last week, Oppo released the Reno 2 series of phones in India. China will follow on September 10. However, these are midrange devices with regular 60Hz screens. No successor has yet been announced for Oppo’s current top model, the Reno Zoom 10x. Perhaps the phone with 90Hz screen will fill this gap in the lineup.

Screens with a higher refresh rate are becoming more common. Earlier this year, the OnePlus 7 Pro with 90Hz screen came out and according to the rumor mill, the Google Pixel 4 smartphones will also have a 90Hz OLED screen. Some smartphones, such as the Asus ROG Phone 2, and the Razer Phone 1 and 2, even have screens with a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Update, 5/9/2019, 4:38 PM: Brian Shen just hinted at a new version of the SuperVOOC fast charging technology via Weibo. The above phone may support this technique.
